What Products Are Available From Pennyhill Timber?

  • Concrete Fence Posts
Concrete is a fantastic material for use in landscaping projects such as garden fences.

There are numerous advantages to using concrete fence posts. Firstly concrete is a hardwearing a robust material, indeed many would argue that concrete posts are sturdier than other fence posts. Also, if you choose fence posts made from concrete, you avoid the risk of splitting and rotting that comes with using timber materials.

Concrete fence posts are also a long-lasting solution. If you choose to utilise concrete posts in a garden fence project, you can enjoy peace of mind in the knowledge that if they are well maintained, they will not need to be replaced in the near future.

  • Concrete Gravel Boards
A gravel board is a piece of concrete or timber which is placed between a fence panel and the ground. The main role of the gravel board is to keep the panel away from the ground which helps to reduce or minimise the risk of the panel rotting.

As a gravel board is placed between the fence and the ground, it is important that this board is made from a long lasting material that is resilient against rot. For these reasons, many people choose to use gravel boards made from concrete.

  • Fence Panels
You can browse through two different types of fencing panels on the Pennyhill Timber online store, close board (also known as feather edge) panels and waney edge (also known as lap fence) panels.

A close board (or feather edge) fence is a type of fencing that utilises feather edge boards which are placed vertically in a sturdy frame. Our feather edge fence panels are pressure treated to help improve the panels' resistant to rot.

A waney edge (or lap fence) fence is a very popular type of fencing panel. The lap fence style uses timber slats which are ran horizontally across the panels. These slats run across the full width of the panel and are held in place with vertical batten and a frame. Additionally, if you're concerned about untreated timber in a fence, you can have peace of mind in the knowledge that our waney edge fence panels are pressure treated.

  • Fence Posts
Whilst concrete is a strong and robust material, it is also heavy; often requiring more than one person to install a single fence post. This is just one of the numerous reasons why some people choose to purchase timber fence posts instead of concrete fence posts.

Additionally, wooden fence posts are seen by some as more stylish when combined with wooden fence panels. Also, if you choose both wooden fence panels and wooden fence posts, you can fix the two together, eliminating the rattling noise that may occur with concrete posts.

  • Timber Gravel Boards
Some people choose to utilise gravel boards made from concrete, however many others choose to use timber gravel boards.

Whilst it is indeed true that timber gravel boards are at risk of rotting, using a timber gravel board does have many advantages. Firstly, some might argue that the timber gravel board looks more natural, especially compared with concrete gravel boards. Additionally a timber gravel board can often be much cheaper than concrete gravel boards. This means that, if your gravel boards start to rot and you purchased timber boards, they can be easily replaced.

Additionally, with regards to rot, it is important to remember that pressure treated wood has a longer lifespan compared to untreated wood.
