Timber feather edge remains one of the most popular choices for cladding the outside of buildings. Feather edge slats have straight edges and create a traditional look, without being too rustic or modern looking. Pressure treated with an environmentally friendly preservative, the timber can be re-painted or stained as required and will last for many years if properly maintained.
Feather edge cladding is also known as weatherboarding and each feather edge is known as a slat. The feather edge slats are produced from a sawn board cut on the diagonal to produce a tapered board (i.e. one edge is thicker than the other).
Feather-edge cladding is designed to be laid horizontally with an overlap of approximately 25mm - 40mm depending on the width of the slat. It is important to follow the correct advice when fixing the feather edge slats and allow for expansion. We also recommend using stainless steel screws and galvanised fixings.
